Cyclocross in Montana

A USAC Release Form (Road/Cyclocross Release Form) is required at all USA Cycling events, whether you pre-registered or not. It's recommended that you print it out, fill out the required information, and present it with your license at race registration. It will save you a bunch of time.

2007 MBRA Cross Series Registration

Everyone is encouraged to give cyclocross a try. It can be done on either road or mountain bikes (bar ends must be removed), is a great riding-skill builder, and a fun way to maintain some fitness during the Fall. Any USA Cycling license is valid at ‘cross events, and annual licenses have a separate “Cyclocross” category. The ‘Cross category is based on a racer’s road or mtb race category. Please note that racers are responsible for ensuring that their cyclocross race category accurately reflects their ability/experience level. Those competing with one-day licenses will race as Category 4s (Men B or Master B). For more info on this issue, see: http://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=2221

In order to make promoters’ jobs easier and help racers know what to expect from week to week, MBRA has adopted the following standards that will apply to this Fall’s ‘cross offerings:

Race Divisions –

For the purposes of the MBRA cyclocross race series, we will observe the following race divisions/groupings:

- Men A (Cyclocross Cat. 1/2/3)
- Men B (Cyclocross Cat. 4)
- Masters 40+ (Cyclocross Cat. 1/2/3/4)
- Women A (Cyclocross Cat. 1/2/3)
- Women B (Cyclocross Cat. 4)
- Junior Men
- Junior Women

Start Order –

At events where all divisions race on the course at the same time (typical in Montana, but not necessarily elsewhere), we will observe the following start order:

- Men A
- Masters (after Men A complete one lap)
- Men B (after Men A complete one lap + one minute)
- Women A/B (after Men A complete one lap + two minutes)
- Juniors (after Men A complete one lap + three minutes)

Thus, the Men A group will do one additional lap. Subsequent groups will start at one-minute intervals, following the completion of the Men A group’s first lap. All women will start in the same flight, but the A & B divisions will be scored separately. As our field sizes grow, promoters may be asked to hold multiple, separate races for some divisions.

With the introduction of the Cyclocross license, USA Cycling has published upgrade criteria.  All racers start as Cat 4s and the upgrade requirements can be viewed here or on www.usacycling.org.
