YOU
ARE INVITED
Missoulians
On Bicycles invites you to take part in what is Montana's oldest annual
competitive cycling event. The Hill Climb traditionally closes Montana's
bicycle racing season, but it is designed for the casual as well as the
competitive rider. Riders of all abilities have participated in the Hill Climb
and have ranged in age from 7 to 70.
THE
COURSE
The
four-mile climb rises 840 feet up Pattee Canyon Drive in Missoula, starting
from the corner of Takima and Pattee Canyon. Cyclists leave at one
minute-intervals and ride against the clock.
A
CATEGORY FOR YOU
Eight age
categories each for men and women are as follows: Midget, 12 years and under;
Intermediate, 13-14; Junior, 15-17; Senior, 18-34; Veteran, 35-44; Master,
45-54; Grand Master, 55-64 and Wheel Master, 65 and up. There are also tandem,
recumbent, high wheel, tricycle, unicycle, and handcycle categories.
HOW
TO ENTER
Registration
will begin Saturday evening, Oct. 4, at Big Sky Cyclery at 1110 South Ave. West
in Missoula, from 5-6:00 p.m. Riders (especially slower riders) are encouraged
to register during this early registration period. Registration on the morning
of the climb will take place from 7:30-9:00 a.m. at Big Sky Cyclery.
Each rider
will be assigned a number and a starting time at registration and need not
appear at the start until the appointed time. The event is limited to 100
entrants. NonMOBI members must pay a $1.00 entry fee. MOBI members need not pay
an entry fee, but are asked to bring proof of membership in the form of a
newsletter mailing label. All riders must wear a helmet. The climb will take
place rain or shine. A complete result sheet will be mailed to all
participants.
BRING
A PRIZE
A prize for
every rider is a Hill Climb tradition, therefore, we ask each participant to
bring a prize for another rider. Use your imagination - anything goes! Here are
just a few examples from past years: homemade bread or cookies, dental floss,
used golf balls, carpentry work, books, bicycle parts, frozen dog meat, fishing
flies, and smorkles. The prizes are distributed randomly, so bring something
nice - you might win it! Bring your prize donation to registration. All prizes
and donors will be listed in a future edition of the MOBI newsletter. Remember
you need not be a hill
climber to
donate a prize.
THANK
YOU
A special
thanks to Big Sky Cyclery for the use of their shop for registration.
