This weekend the Echelon Cycling Club of Great Falls held the State Cycling Road Race and Time Trial Championships for the second year in a row. Bicycle racers from all over the state showed up to compete and hopefully walk away with gold silver and bronze medals. The time trial which is an all out race against the clock was held on Saturday in Ulm. The route started just outside of Ulm and headed south on the frontage road towards Cascade and back. This year the wind played a pretty big factor as riders fought against it for 12.5 miles and rode with it back into Ulm. This year was a repeat for the the defending champion Donovan Lynch of Bozeman and the Gallitin Valley Cycling Club. He accomplished the 40 Km course in 53 min 13 sec and 60/100th. 2nd place rider out of Missoula, Mark Legg (Northern Rockies) etched out Geoff Proctor (Mt Velo) by a 1/2 second. The 4/5 category saw hometown hero Jason Dykstra (ECC) of Great Falls on top with a time of 56:50.70. Wendy Wagner walked away with the women uner 30 title at a time of 1:00:29.54. The masters category was topped by a couple of guys in their 50's who, if racing in the 1/2/3 category, would have placed 2nd and 3rd. They are Joe Lemire and Tom Greason out of Bozeman racing with the GVBC. Following are a list of the total results for the Time Trial.

The Montana state Road Race was held on Sunday starting in Monarch heading south over King’s Hill for 52 miles (for Sr. Men 1/2/3), 28 miles for all other categories, and back. Geoff Proctor of the Mt Velo squad broke away from the group with about 25 miles to go. He gained several minutes on the group on King’s Hill Pass and held it all the way to the finish claiming the overall State Championships for the 1/2/3 category. Donovan Lynch of GVBC was second a couple minutes behind Geoff. In the senior men 4/5 group, Jason Dykstra (ECC) and Will Schneider (Sportiva) chased down BJ Phillips, who gained 2 minutes on the pack, and caught him with about 50 meters to the finish. Dykstra displayed excellent tactics and took the sprint at the line. The women category was just as exciting as Heidi Stamm (5VV) and Wendy Wagner (GVBC) battled for first place with Stamm taking it right at the line. Heidi explained afterwards "If we had another 10 meters I think Wendy would have taken it". The masters category (ages 30 and above) put Richard Botto (UN) on top followed by Steve Perkins (GVBC). Jeff Penrod (Flathead Velo) claimed the 40+ victory and Tom Greason (GVBC) won the 50+. Below are the results from the Sunday Road Race.
